I feel a stirring in my spirit, a holy hunger for a move of God. I have far more questions than answers right now about where He wants to take Marriage is Worth the Fight, but I want to start believing that He can and will accomplish more than I could ask or imagine.
When I first wrote the book, I was honestly a bit sorrowful, even angry, at the lies I was beginning to hear about marriage. Particularly disturbing to me was the chauvinistic mindset I saw creeping into our culture. Male and female influencers teaching thousands to treat the opposite sex as if they were toys to be played with and discarded the moment they no longer satisfy their personal whims. This message shows up in many forms, cleverly disguised behind rhetoric that feels affirming and, at times, even righteous. The human heart has an incredible ability to lie to itself.
As time has gone on, I have seen even more misunderstandings about marriage, and perhaps “misunderstandings” is too generous. Many influencers are feeding people outright lies so they remain hooked on a toxic message of self affirmation that justifies whatever they want to do next, all while filling the coffers of the people they follow.
This has to stop.
God did not create marriage to be a squabbling relationship between two people fighting for equality. He designed it to be a powerhouse institution that demonstrates His wisdom and His love to the world, with Jesus Christ at its very center. Jesus the servant. Jesus the healer. Jesus the King.
Jesus did not demonize or belittle the opposite sex. He restored and honored women to their rightful place. Jesus did not demand that His disciples serve Him. He washed their feet. Jesus did not insist on being treated fairly. He willingly embraced outrageous injustice out of love for His dear ones. You and me.
I do not know exactly where all of this is going, but I do know this: we need to get God back to the center of marriage. And I want to be part of that movement. I am tired of watching friends and people I love fall apart because they have a fundamental misunderstanding of what marriage is and what God designed it to be. The world did not create marriage. It does not get to define it either.
My hope, my prayer, and my conviction is that God will use these efforts to strengthen and restore the institution of marriage. I believe there is a Promised Land, and I am going there. I hope you and many others will come too.
The gates of hell are not going to quake while we sit still.
